Stephen D. Powell
Stephen D. Powell joined Powell Coleman & Arnold LLP as a partner in 2002. Previously, he engaged in a real estate transactional practice in his own law firm which he founded in 1993. Mr. Powell has also practiced as a civil trial lawyer, and he has served as general counsel for a large, Dallas-based financial institution.
Mr. Powell’s experience includes real estate, mortgage loan, litigation and financial institution matters on a national scope. He now concentrates on office and retail leasing, and real estate acquisitions and dispositions. For several years, Mr. Powell directed all asset-related legal affairs for a Wall Street client group holding securitized mortgage and diverse real property portfolios involving hospitality, multifamily, retail, office, churches and marinas. He has worked extensively in the management and disposition of "distressed" assets.
Mr. Powell received his B.A. degree, cum laude, from Trinity University in 1977, and his J.D. degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law (now Dedman School of Law) in 1981. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit.
